The website is an opportunity for you to become aware of state, regional, and community websites that will provide you information for relocating to Alabama. The Home Page contains a menu on the left side of the page. Governor Bob Riley has written a letter welcoming you to Alabama, and he emphasizes that the Alabama Advantage is a starting point for your venture of discovery in Alabama. At times we may add other topics of special interest.

This section provides you with detailed map information about the southeastern United States, Alabama highways, community geographical locations, lakes, historical maps, driving distances, and detailed maps of communities of interest. This is a one-stop source for travel information to and within the State of Alabama. As you review the other menu topics, you will find the Yahoo maps useful.

Drawing from the experience of past inquires, we list subjects related to relocation and retirement in the State Links page. The Regional Communities page of the Alabama Advantage is a most important site for people who are considering relocation to a particular community. We encourage you to email the community or local website links that interest you. These people are from the community, and they would like to hear from you. Please tell them that you appreciate their participation in the Alabama Advantage website. The Regional Communities page permits a person to visit Alabama communities. A state map is provided to locate participating cities. With a click of the computer mouse, the viewer can visit a community and review what a community says about why you should consider living in the community. A community picture is provided to create interest in making an on-site visit. A representative of the community provides information on each community page. A representative of a community may be from the office of the Mayor, Chamber of Commerce, commercial business, tourism organization, Alabama Cooperative Extension System office or a volunteer. The unique feature of the community page is that people are provided with an email address or a telephone number for acquiring additional information about the community. In addition, communities can link to five local or regional websites of their choice. Communities have linked to the city, tourist, county, community college, museum, local state park, and chamber of commerce websites. Selection of link websites is the decision of the local community contact person. Information about a community includes local taxes, housing costs, utilities and services, health care, military installations, education opportunities, and proximity to other cities. Many communities have been innovative in that they utilize the assets of other cities in Alabama and adjoining states, such as airport, military and recreation. One of the most asked questions in one county revenue office is, "Is cable TV available?" This site will answer this question as well as questions regarding the frequency of garbage services and other questions that will influence the decision to relocate to a community.
