Union Springs

Union Springs offers the quiet pleasures of small town life, yet is close to all major cities in Alabama.  The annual temperature is a moderate 65 degrees.   Hot summer days are seldom without a breeze and below freezing temperatures are a winter rarity.  The moderate climate allows year round activities.  The City has a walking trail and the tree lined streets offer other avenues of trails.  Gold tennis, and swimming are available at the private Country Club and will be available at the new YMCA.  Many Civic Clubs and Volunteer opportunities are waiting.  Annual events include the Fitzpatrick Fox Hunts in March, Chunnenuggee Fair in May, Veterans Day Celebration in November, and Christmas Parade in December.  Union Springs  is the Bird Dog Trail Capital of the World. Field Dog Trails are held November to March.  The largest amateur dog trail in the nation is held each February at Sedgefields Plantation.  From November to March  the area is known as hunter's paradise.  Hunting clubs and lodges have formed to host individuals and groups.   Wehle Nature Center in Midway offers a return  to nature experience.

Union Springs is a community that takes pride in its heritage but maintains a progressive outlook.  A Mayors-Council form of government governs the city.  The cost of living is lower, low crime rate, and excellent health care facilities are available.  Within a forty-five minute drive radius three universities and three military bases are available.

The Union Springs-Bullock County Tourism Council and City of Union Springs Retirement Committee are available  to help anyone seeking information or retiring   to Bullock County.  The Tourism Council has retirees available for consultations.  Contact the Tourism Council Retiree Committee, P.O. Box 5236, Union Springs, Alabama  36089.  (334) 738-8687, Fax (334) 5068  E-mail macl@ustcolin.net.
