Highways

Railroads
- Twenty-one competitively priced railroad companies operate
in Alabama along approximately 6,000 miles of track on five major railroads, including
multi-modal systems located in Huntsville, Birmingham and Mobile.
- Five Class I railroad companies provide the majority of
Alabama's main line service including:
- Norfolk Southern Corporation
- Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway
- CSX Transportation
- Illinois Central Railroad
- Kansas City Southern
Air
- Served by eight commercial and six commuter airlines
operating through nine commercial airports, providing a flexible choice of "major
hub" airports in Atlanta, Memphis, New Orleans and Nashville.
- One hundred licensed public-use airfields in the state.
Waterways
- Extensive system of water transportation including
approximately 1,300 miles of navigable water on six different waterways.
- The Port of Mobile is one of the largest deepwater ports
in the U.S., served by more than 130 steamship lines providing substantial shipping
capabilities connected to 14 public and 155 private inland dock facilities.
