"The Peanut Capital of the World"
This Dothan statue honors Dr.
George Washington Carver, whose many experiments with plants - most notably the peanut -
helped revolutionize agricultural science and forever changed the agriculture industry.
The importance of peanuts to the region's economy is significant, and
has been so for decades. More peanuts are grown in the Wiregrass than any other region of
Alabama.
For years, Dothan has hailed itself "The Peanut Capitol of the
World."
